Kemira has acquired all shareholding in Kemwater (Yixing) Co. Ltd. The remaining 11 per cent of shares were purchased from FINNFUND, Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd. At the same time Kemira has decided to raise the company's share capital by 4 million Chinese yuan to be 34 million yuan , viz. ca. EUR 4 million.
Kemwater (Yixing) Co. Ltd mainly produces inorganic coagulants for water treatment. The company's annual production capacity amounts to 55,000 tons of liquid polyaluminium chloride and 10,000 tons of solid PAC. The company also produces ferric chloride and organic polymers, viz. polydiciandimide and polydadmac.
Kemwater (Yixing) operates in the Yixing industrial park area, in Yixing city, Jiangsu county. The nearest big cities in the area are Shanghai and Nanking.
The company's most important customers in China are water treatments plants for drinking water and plants for industry water treatment. Juka Kuikka, Manager Director of Kemwater Yixing, says: "Also municipal waste water treatment will be an important market for us. The use of chemicals reduces the cost of waste water treatment, in comparison to purely biological water treatment. Several waste water treatment plant projects are currently underway in China, and we expect to see the number increase many times over within the next few years."
Kemira ranks among the world's leading producers of inorganic coagulants for water treatment. The company engages in water treatment chemical business in 25 countries, China being an interesting target as the world's biggest single market area. The use of inorganic coagulants will increase, and consumption in China is expected to be at the level of two million tons annually.
Kemira's other company in China, Kemira Chemicals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., engages in the marketing of paper chemicals. The two companies work in close cooperation, whereby Kemira Chemicals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in part sells Kemwater (Yixing) Co. Ltd's chemicals to applications within the paper industry.
