MALMO, Sweden, Feb. 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca (Stockholm:TELCb) and Synergenix have signed a global distribution agreement for the mobile-gaming platform Mophun(TM). The agreement means that Teleca will offer the Mophun gaming engine as part of the Obigo(TM) mobile suite. Mobile gaming is expected to be one of the big applications for the next generation of mobile phones and Teleca is expecting a strong growth in this area.
Obigo (formerly AU Mobile Suite 2.0) is a suite of software products that is the application layer needed to build a complete mobile phone including Internet browsing, messaging and content management. The suite is now broadend with Mophun. The gaming platform is integrated with the Obigo Framework, which acts as the foundation for all of Obigo's applications. Teleca will also offer integration services to mobile device manufacturers and mobile operators.
Mophun is a gaming platform especially adapted for mobile devices. Mophun has extremely low hardware requirements compared with other gaming solutions; it is also the fastest gaming solution available on the market. Further, new games, levels and credits are easy to download directly into the phone. More than 50 games are available today and very soon there will be more than 100 games.
"The Obigo mobile suite was designed for the latest and future mobile handheld devices," said Joakim Nydemark, President of Teleca Mobile Technologies. "We need a gaming engine for the future that enables full use of all functionalities within the handset, such as graphics, sound and vibrations. Mophun is a solution we believe will add real value to handset manufacturers."
"Today's announcement is a good example of how the industry is increasing its focus on improving the interactive gaming experience," said Per Osterberg, President of Synergenix. "This is a major step forward for our Mophun platform. We are glad to see that the mophun technology now will be integrated with other superior technologies to enable better handsets globally."
According to several recent reports (Analysys 2002, Ovum 2001) mobile gaming is set for a rapid growth during the next few years, effectively creating a substantial new market for game developers, handset manufacturers and mobile operators. Estimates predict that the market will grow from $250 million in 2002 to more than $3,000 million in 2005. There is also likely to be a shift from today's text based WAP and SMS games to graphically rich, action-oriented games.
