Southeastern Pennsylvanians Asked to `Spare A Square' to Help the Hungry!

Greater Philadelphia Food Bank and Marcal Paper Mills, Inc. Partner on Anti-Hunger Campaign

PHILADELPHIA, March 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank and Marcal Paper Mills Inc. are asking southeastern Pennsylvanians to 'spare a square' and participate in a new partnership program, Marcal Helping The Hungry(tm), by simply purchasing Marcal paper products. The program, which launches March 9, 2003, will help more than 40 Food Banks from Maine to Virginia.

"This is such a simple way for anyone to support the Food Bank and help feed needy people in their community," says Joan Mintz Ulmer, director of resource development for the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank.

This weekend, and continuing throughout the year, Marcal will drop more than 17 million Marcal Helping The Hungry advertisements in leading Sunday newspapers offering a $1.00 coupon towards the purchase of Marcal products. For every coupon redeemed at the supermarket, Marcal will donate 10 cents to The Greater Philadelphia Food Bank. You can also help by sending the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank your UPC Bar Codes from your Marcal purchase. Marcal will donate three cents to the Food Bank for every UPC.

"We believe that through our Marcal brand, we can promote social justice," said Nick Marcalus, president and CEO of Marcal Paper Mills, Inc. "An example of this corporate commitment is by bringing our consumers and retail partners together to fight hunger. This is a very simple way for people concerned about the hungry to pitch in and help. Through a number of coupon and label redemption programs, consumers purchasing Marcal products and supermarkets stocking our paper tissue products, Marcal is ready to contribute to those food banks participating in the Marcal Helping The Hungry program."
