Soil and Water awarded two significant water resource management projects

A consortium led by Soil and Water Ltd has won the bidding arranged by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a consulting assignment in Africa. The project aims at harmonisation of the national policies and programmes of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan into a regionally accepted water resource management approach. A further aim is to facilitate the trans-boundary co-operation in the Nile catchment by developing the organisation of the regional co-operation unit and by providing advisory services. The value of the contract is about EUR 2 million and the project will be completed at the end of 2005.

Soil and Water Ltd has also secured a contract with the European Commission TACIS programme for water management in the Lake Chudskoe catchment at the Russo-Estonian border. The project will be implemented by a consortium of three companies led by Soil and Water. The contract includes preparation of a plan to reduce nutrient loads, training and public awareness raising, as well as development of the legislative framework. Another aim is to improve cross-border co-operation for environmental protection efforts at Lake Chudskoe. The value of the assignment is approximately EUR 2 million and it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2004.

Jaakko Pöyry Infra's target is to secure large-scale water resource management projects and to establish a stable market share of the growing markets. The above projects are a major step towards this goal.
