STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Vodafone Sweden (NYSE:VOD) (Other OTC:VODPF) is extending its introductory campaign for sending picture messages with sound and text (MMS) for only SEK 1.50 per message. The campaign price will apply until 31 August. After this, Vodafone Sweden will introduce a new pricing system based on the size of the MMS message that is sent.
MMS adds a whole new dimension to regular mobile communication and allows mobile users to share their experiences via their mobile phones using pictures, sound and text, whatever the occasion or their mood might be.
"We have noted a distinct increase in the demand for mobile phones that enable communication with pictures, particularly camera-phones. By extending our introductory price offer, we hope to encourage more people to discover the possibilities of expressing themselves via mobile picture communication," said Vodafone Sweden's Commercial Director of Consumer Affairs, Goran Mannerstrale
Mobile camera-phone development is now racing ahead, and it is already possible to record and send video clips from certain phone models. In a year or so, camera-phones will have a picture resolution that is vastly superior to that of the phones currently in use, and this will mean that even bigger messages can be sent.
Vodafone Sweden is also introducing a new price category for MMS messages with a view to meeting its customers' needs when it comes to sending video MMS and high-resolution images. As of 1 September, Vodafone Sweden will be lowering its MMS price for messages up to 30 kb to SEK 3.50 (from SEK 4.80). The new prices will also cover MMS messages between 31kb - 100kb, which will cost SEK 5.50.
