Nokia and Orca lead service convergence with demonstration of video services delivery to multiple devices at Supercomm 2003

Nokia, a world leader in mobile and broadband communications and Orca Interactive, a global market leader in developing applications for interactive TV, will use Orca's iTV application software to demonstrate streamed video services over Nokia's media enabled broadband infrastructure in the Nokia booth (Hall B4, Booth #23547) at SuperComm 2003, June 1 - 5 in Atlanta, Georgia. Visitors to Nokia's booth will see video services delivered to TVs, PCs and Nokia mobile terminal.

Nokia will demonstrate the cost-efficient delivery methods necessary for full video-on-demand services via the Nokia D500 multiservice access platform and the Redback(R) SmartEdge 800(R) Router. The service solution demonstrates how video content can be multicasted through the operator network, allowing multiple video streams to be delivered to end-user terminal devices such as TVs and PCs.

Orca will demonstrate its RiGHTv(TM) applications software solutions - RiGHTv(TM) XVOD for VOD extended with advertisements and related T-Commerce features and RiGHTv XBIP for IPTV extended with EPG (electronic program guide) and TSTV (time shifted TV). These applications are delivered through Nokia's D500 on to TVs through two industry standard set-top boxes, a PC and Nokia mobile terminal.

The Nokia Broadband Media solution including Nokia D500 and Orca Interactive RIGHTv products gives operators an opportunity to deliver video services to multiple devices on broadband networks generating additional revenues, reducing customer churn and gaining customer loyalty. Users of Nokia mobile terminals can view a series of movie trailers whilst on the move and select a movie to be delivered over the fixed broadband network at a time convenient for them to view it. This demonstrates how operators and service providers could take full advantage of convergent services delivered over both mobile and fixed broadband networks.

"Nokia is pleased to be co-operating with Orca Interactive to deliver innovative and leading edge broadband media delivery solutions that will enable telecommunications operators to compete with triple play provides and also secure additional revenue opportunities from their customer base," says Markku Hynninen, Vice President, Nokia Broadband Systems.

"We're excited about SuperComm and the opportunity to demonstrate the seamless integration of our IPTV and VOD solutions with Nokia's multi-service broadband access infrastructure," says Yosi Glick, Vice President of business development, Orca Interactive.

"With the combined Nokia - Orca solution, our telecommunications operator customers can provide superior services than the triple play services typically offered by cable providers, as not only fixed terminals can receive the services, but also mobile terminals," he adds.
