NCC to build E4 highway section north of Markaryd for SEK 394 million

SOLNA, Sweden, June 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- NCC has been commissioned by the National Road Administration's Southeastern Region to build a highway section from Stromsnasbruk to the traffic port just north of Markaryd. The assignment is for the first phase of construction of the E4 highway past Markaryd. The order is worth SEK 394 million.

NCC's assignment is to build a highway section from the existing highway in Stromsnasbruk to 100 meters south of the existing junction at Markaryd Norra. The highway section is 14 kilometers long and also comprises a junction, a large bridge over the Langandalen valley and 13 smaller bridges that will be formed on site. In addition, the assignment includes a number of local and private roads.

The largest part of the current sections crosses forestland. The geotechnical conditions are favorable and the ground consists largely of sandy moraine.

Construction will start during autumn 2003 and the project is scheduled for completion in 2006.

"From the viewpoint of road safety, this is a highly essential road project. It is gratifying that it will now be initiated," said Tor Wolgast, Business Manager at NCC Construction Sweden
