Nokia raises price-performance bar in securing mixed Internet traffic environments with introduction of Nokia IP1260

Mountain View, Calif.- July 2, 2003 - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today unveiled the Nokia IP1260, a robust, high-availability network security platform specifically designed to easily handle the growth and increasing diversity of Internet traffic. The new platform's adaptable design scales to support mixed-traffic in large and complex network infrastructures, packing more power into a compact platform without sacrificing security, high availability, and the high port density most customers require.

The new platform integrates security applications from best-of-breed partners to provide first-rate intrusion protection and robust firewall and VPN traffic performance. Nokia has worked closely with Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ:CHKP) to tightly integrate leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation with Application Intelligence(TM)--the industry's only comprehensive, integrated security solution for defeating and preventing both network-level and application-level attacks. Together, the companies are ensuring the Nokia IP1260 meets the demanding Internet traffic mix needs of today and tomorrow.

"We built the Nokia IP1260 with a scalable design to expand and evolve along with a company's business requirements," said Dan MacDonald, vice president of product management and marketing, Nokia Internet Communications. "Customers want balanced, business problem-solving innovations that allow them to focus on growth and profitability as opposed to hyped claims of 'speeds, feeds,' and other technical jargon. The IP1260 is the result of Nokia listening to, learning from, and serving the world's leading organizations.

The Nokia IP1260 extends the high-end range of Nokia's industry-leading IP security appliance portfolio, complementing the existing high performance IP700 series. The Nokia portfolio now scales from the smallest remote office to the world's largest, most mission critical data centers.

"We are very pleased to see Nokia announce the IP1260 appliance," said Gonen Fink, vice president, solutions and strategy, Check Point Software Technologies. "This new appliance, integrating Check Point's powerful Next Generation with Application Intelligence, provides large enterprise, data center, and service provider customers with a robust and flexible platform for ensuring the highest levels of security."

Improved scalability, serviceability and performance
The performance of the Nokia IP1260 has been recorded and documented using the most advanced "real world" topology and traffic testing tools and methodologies available. It delivers:
-  4.2 Gbps of large packet firewall thoughput (1518 Byte packets, 0% Packet Loss, 100th rule)
-  400 Mbps of small packet firewall throughput (64 Byte Packets, 0% Packet Loss, 100th Rule
- 1 million simultaneous firewall connections
- 30,000 connections per second (100th rule) 1
- 800 Mbps of large packet VPN throughput (1450 Byte packets, 0% Packet Loss, 20th Rule) 2
- Support for up to 12 10/100 Ethernet Ports and 8 Gigabit Ethernet Ports
- 2 RU Chassis, dual power, dual disk, 1 GB of RAM, VPN acceleration

Note 1: The Nokia IP1260 supports 7400 connections per second at the time of this release, and will support 30,000 connections per second via software upgrade in September 2003.

Note 2: The Nokia IP1260 supports 360 Mbps of large packet VPN throughput at the time of this release, and will support more than 800 Mbps of large packet VPN throughput via a software upgrade in September 2003.

Nokia IP1260 combines Nokia's high performance, purpose-built hardware sub systems, proven highly reliable security hardened operating system (IPSO), and rapid deployment systems management software. It is designed for maximum network availability with hot swappable network interface cards, and redundant cooling fans, power supplies, and hard disk drives.

The platform supports Check Point's VPN-1/Firewall-1 VSX(TM), which delivers 802.1q VLAN-based security and enables customers to create hundreds of virtual systems on a single IP1260. This solution is ideal for data centers, complex enterprise networks, and service provider POPs. With this plug-and-protect solution, customers can securely segment their networks using virtual firewall technology that enables granular access control and attack protection policies without sacrificing performance.

Nokia core value proposition
Nokia IP1260 provides manageability through Nokia Network Voyager, the award-winning Nokia browser-based secure GUI management software that can be deployed either locally or remotely. It is also fully supported by Nokia Horizon Manager, Nokia's secure multiple system management tool, designed to dramatically reduce the time and costs associated with deploying, upgrading, tracking and maintaining security software in networked environments.

"Customers demand that security solutions provide higher levels of security, reliability and manageability while meeting demanding traffic and performance requirements," continued MacDonald. "The Nokia IP1260 raises the bar in all these areas."

The Nokia IP1260 will be available through Nokia's established global channel in July 2003. Consistent with the entire Nokia IP network security appliance portfolio, it is also backed by Nokia's world-class, SCP certified "First Call-Final Resolution" global service and support.
