Refusal To Mourn -- New book explores one detective's inability to cope with the horrors of homicide

CHICAGO, July 11, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Philip Morton, a homicide detective investigating the murder of a young girl, is drawn into a series of killings that casts him into the maelstrom of a religious reincarnation. The death of the girl causes the grieving detective to begin a pilgrimage that will take him to the very foundation of Christianity. That journey is documented in Lincoln R. Peters' intriguing work of fiction, Refusal To Mourn (now available through 1stBooks).

Questioning all the evil that is endemic in the world, Philip Morton is led to speculate on how many of the seven deadly sins would still be the curse of mankind had our Lord Jesus Christ been allowed to live out a normal life span.

But the death of a second girl drives the detective over the edge. He finds it impossible to accept her death and go on with life. In desperation, he commits an act that leaves him torn between being a true believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ or an evil-minded antichrist.

The final victim is the most beautiful girl he's ever known. She was, to him, a lovable, heavenly nightingale: a female that had the form and the fascination of one of the seven heavenly Muses; the ageless Deities that the ancients had worshipped all their lives without ever seeing or knowing, or being intimate with.

So the detective completes his date with destiny and awaits the final verdict of those that will judge him. His real concern is not centered on how the society he lives in adjudicates him, but how he will be accepted in the life hereafter.

Lincoln R. Peters was born in Chicago and has lived there all his life with the exception of the three years he served in the Army during World War II.

He is married, has two sons and four grandchildren. He has had two other novels published: Murder At The Famous Door and Biak-Zambo: A Story Of Two Soldiers. The latter is a work of fiction, but accurately describes some of the battles that the author fought in during the time he served with the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific War. He is currently working on a book centered in the pleasant sunny beaches of southern Florida.
