AGOURA HILLS, Calif., July 15, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- MEDIA ADVISORY -- The Los Angeles Chapter of The ALS Association will be hosting its 3rd annual 2003 Authentic Swing Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds to support direct patient services for people with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino Counties.
WHAT: The "2003 Authentic Swing Charity Golf Tournament. That's 18 holes of golf, putting contests, mulligan sales, longest-drive competitions, silent and live auctions, breakfast, lunch, cocktail hour, banquet dinner and awards ceremony. WHERE: North Ranch Country Club, Westlake Village, California WHEN: Monday, July 21, 2003 Registration: 9:00 am Shotgun Start: 11 am Cocktails: 4:30 p.m. Banquet Dinner: 5:30 p.m. CELEBRITY GOLFERS: Hosting the event is Wes Parker, former L.A. Dodger. Hal Linden (Barney Miller), Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blues), Pat Boone (Entertainer), Tommy Lee (Musician), Rafer Johnson, (U.S. Olympian) are also scheduled to play. WHY: To raise funds to support direct patient services for people with ALS, in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino Counties and to help build awareness of this most devastating of fatal diseases. ALS, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease which attacks the motor neurons making even the simplest movement, including, walking, speaking, gesturing, nearly impossible. Mental functions, however, with most people are not impaired. Recent media coverage of Bruce Edwards, caddy to Pro Golfer Tom Watkins, has placed the national spotlight on this disease for which there is no cure.
