Emulex PCI-X HBAs Certified With StorageTek Automated Tape Solutions

Product Interoperability Enables Increased Performance For Heterogeneous SAN Environments

COSTA MESA, Calif. and LOUISVILLE, Colo., Aug. 11, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) --Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), one of the world's leading suppliers of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), and StorageTek, the storage and solutions expert, today jointly announced certification of the Emulex LightPulse 2Gb/s LP9802 and dual channel LP9802DC Fibre Channel PCI-X HBAs for use with StorageTek(r) (Storage Technology Corp.) (NYSE:STK) tape drives and libraries running in Solaris and Windows operating environments.

The long-standing OEM relationship and certification effort between Emulex and StorageTek is a validation of the companies' commitment to the deployment of interoperable, heterogeneous storage area network (SAN) solutions. All Emulex products tested by StorageTek undergo rigorous testing scenarios to assure complete interoperability in a variety of tape backup configurations. These certifications expand the list of qualified StorageTek products to include the T9840A, T9840B, T9840C, T9940A, T9940B, in addition to IBM Linear Tape Open (LTO) generation 1 and 2, and the HP LTO generation 2 tape drives. Also tested, and supported, are the L180 and L700 StorageTek libraries.

"As the leading supplier of tape drive technology, StorageTek solutions possess industry-leading capacity, speed and access capabilities that enterprise SANs demand," said Todd Adler, StorageTek manager, Engineering. "Emulex continues to offer robust HBAs that operate seamlessly with our storage offerings, and reinforce best-in-class performance and reliability."

The Emulex HBA family offers a unique set of capabilities that dramatically reduce SAN management complexity, such as driver compatibility across its entire family of LightPulse HBA generations. Emulex HBAs also feature a firmware-based architecture, which provides investment protection by allowing end users to incorporate new features and functionality via a firmware download instead of purchasing new hardware.

"As a leading provider of storage networking HBAs, Emulex views its ongoing relationship with StorageTek and its membership in StorageTek's new TekAlliance Partner Program, as important to providing the storage industry with high performance and reliable tape and connectivity solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "StorageTek products' manageability and universal access to data across servers and storage networks directly complements Emulex HBAs, and are designed to provide scalable, robust SAN solutions to a broad customer base."
