The 2003 African American Cultural Extravaganza at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Part of the PECO Energy Multicultural Series


PHILADELPHIA, August 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The rich traditions of Africa and the African Diaspora will be brought to the waterfront on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 from noon to 8 p.m. at the African American Cultural Extravaganza presented by the African Cultural Center at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. PECO Energy sponsors this extravaganza as part of their multicultural series. This event will have entertainment throughout the day including: crafts, food, poetry, music and dancing. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2003 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

The African American Cultural Extravaganza entertainment line up includes everything from gospel to hip-hop, jazz, and R&B. The musical line-up will include young aspiring vocalists, along with a variety of dancers performing everything from traditional African cultural dances to the latest hip-hop moves. Headline artists include Hidden Beach recording artist Jeff Bradshaw, Trombone and trumpet player Duane Eubanks. Other performers include Kule Mele African Dance Esemble, fifteen-year-old Star Search semi-finalist Jeremy Holder, Philadelphia International artist Damon, Universal Creative Art and Dance Ensemble, and Troupe Da Da African Dance troupe.

The African American marketplace at the Great Plaza will feature traditional African American, Caribbean, and African food and handicrafts. In addition, several tents and booths will be set up where visitors can learn more about numerous not-for-profit and human service organizations.

Admission is free for all PECO Multicultural Series events.
