MAHWAH, N.J., Sept. 8, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Communications Research, Inc. (Pink Sheets:CRHI) announced today they are in the process of soliciting proposals from third party software developers to rejuvenate their Tele-WRITER Corporation's Tele-WRITER-AGS (Advanced Graphic System) for development of an updated version of system software. At its peak, Tele-WRITER-AGS was generating annual revenues of approximately $10,000,000 and had over 2,000 users. The Company anticipates being able to re-capture a good number of those users and attract new clients with an updated version of the software.
Communications Research, Inc. (CRI) and its wholly owned subsidiary, TeleWRITER Corporation (TWC) have immediate need to update Tele-WRITER audio graphic system to meet current software and operating system requirements. The company is seeking to update the software system to link it to the current version of Microsoft's NetMeeting and APL's for use with the Microsoft's Windows XP and Server 2003 operating system. CRI and TWC shall retain all rights to the product and will promptly begin to market the new software version commercially, upon completion, by CRI, TWC, their agents, representatives, distributors and resellers.
The current software system will only operate on PC's with Microsoft's legacy Windows 95 and 98 and NetMeeting versions 2.0. To be viable in the current market with end users upgrading to Microsoft's Window's XP and Server 2003 with NetMeeting Versions 3.0, a major revision is required. "There are many current users calling regularly, requesting to purchase product upgrade and additional system licenses, that we are justified in making an investment in the products continuance for at least another 7-10 years," according to Carl Ceragno, President of Communications Research and TeleWRITER Corporation.
Initially developed in 1981 by Optel Communications, Tele-Writer was the first audio graphic collaboration system on the market. The system continued to advance and capture the majority of the market with its Version 2 software in the mid 1990's that provided up to 32 users in a work group operating over a private or public IP network.
