MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 12, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Invited Seminar for the Society of Professional Journalists National Convention to Focus on Educating the Media to Anticipate and Ask "The Next Logical Question."
WHAT: The Society of Professional Journalists will hold its National Convention in Tampa, Florida September 11 - 13, 2003. Journalists from around the country meet to experience opportunities for professional development. The society is committed to offering cutting edge educational programs for its members that push the envelope to produce better critical thinking processes and outcomes. In this day and age when spokespersons for industry and government are trained in spin, obfuscation, double-speak, misinformation, and even disinformation, the job of the professional journalist is made even harder. There is a need to understand and decipher these tactics. There is a need to be prepared to respond through asking the next logical question. Skills-based information gathering techniques are useful in accomplishing this goal. Dr. Saul Wilen will present a professional development seminar for journalists to introduce them to the next logical question process and to show the usefulness of skills-based information gathering in order to formulate incisive questions. Saul B. Wilen is the President and CEO of International Horizons Unlimited (www.intlhorizons.com, (210) 692-1268), a national consulting and resources consortium, which utilizes "educational foundations and processes that support prevention strategies to solve problems." Dr. Wilen's background is in political science, education, and medicine, and he is a recognized authority in prevention strategies, problem solving, systems dynamics, and informatics. WHEN: Saturday, September 13, 2003 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. WHERE: Hyatt Regency Tampa Esplanade 1
