Buy.com Maintains Significant Growth in Online Customer Traffic

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Sept. 22, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Buy.com, Inc., The Internet Superstore(tm), today announced a persistent increase in online user traffic, which has more than tripled since January 2003. At the same time, Buy.com's largest competitor, Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN), had a dip in traffic, according to recent ComScore data.

Media Metrix, a source of Internet audience measurement, stated that Buy.com's user traffic continues to gain momentum each month, growing approximately 20 percent from July to August alone. Buy.com attributes its growth to a continual focus on strong promotions and competitive pricing.

Buy.com's Segway giveaway promotion, where online shoppers can enter to win the personal transport system valued at $5,000, has helped drive traffic to the site since its launch in June 2003 and continues to be a way of rewarding customers for their loyalty. In August, Buy.com was ranked No. 3 by Nielsen/NetRatings among the fastest growing retail web sites, further demonstrating its escalating popularity.

"These numbers prove that the Buy.com is continuing to captivate and retain the attention of online consumers, and maybe even catch the attention of some Amazon customers," said Larisa Hall, vice president of marketing for Buy.com. "Our guaranteed low prices, huge selection of great products to choose from and commitment to service are compelling reasons that keep our current customers coming back for more while driving new users to our site."
