Sectra releases high availability PACS for Windows

LINKOPING, Sweden, Sept. 26, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Swedish IT and medical technology company Sectra, has widened its product offering by releasing a true, high availability Windows(r)-based enterprise PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for large hospitals and hospital chains.

Sectra PACS Enterprise Edition(tm) is now being released on the Microsoft Windows(r) platform. The enterprise edition of Sectra PACS(tm), now available on both Unix(r) and Windows(r), is designed for large hospitals and distributed environments where a high level of uptime is required. The enterprise edition supports high availability clustering in all its components and, as such, has no single point of failure.

"Sectra installed the first Unix(r)-based true high availability PACS back in 1996 and we have sites that have been running since 1997 with uptimes of 99.997%," says Anders Brodin, Product Manager at Sectra Imtec AB. "In year 2001, we released Sectra PACS Clinical Edition(tm), a Windows(r)- based system for the smaller enterprise. By now taking the step to full Windows(r) support also for the enterprise edition customers, we are able to offer our customers a flexible, cost effective solution with a freedom of choice in terms of hardware options," he continues.

Sectra enterprise solution for Windows(r) has been installed and successfully used in clinical operation at pilot sites, among which is Vastmanland County in Sweden, where it was installed in April 2003. Vastmanland County comprises four hospitals and one private clinic connected in an enterprise. "Sectra PACS fully meets our expectations on a High Availability system", says Peter Palmgren, Technical Manager at Vastmanland County and responsible for the system and installation project. "The Sectra Windows(r)-based solution has been running smoothly and without any downtime since the installation nearly six months ago, he continues.
