Mountain View, Calif. - (October 7, 2003) - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the availability of the Nokia IP40 security appliance with full firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) capabilities for remote offices and small enterprises. Nokia IP40 extends the Nokia site-to-site VPN suite of solutions to include offerings that scale from the large enterprise and data center, to small and remote offices and businesses.
As the latest addition to Nokia's Mobile Connectivity product portfolio, the Nokia IP40 addresses the unique security and connectivity requirements of small and remote sites with enhanced management and performance capabilities for cost-effective connectivity and management of users across multiple locations. Nokia IP40 is a unique Nokia-designed hardware appliance that comes standard with pre-licensed and pre-installed Check Point (NASDAQ:CHKP) VPN-1® Embedded NG software for fast and easy deployment.
"Nokia IP40 is currently the best product on the market to connect remote locations to a central network by VPN," said Martin Seeger, Project Manager, NetUSE. "At the same time, it represents a 'state-of-the-art' firewall with all the bells and whistles a Check Point managed gateway has to offer."
When leveraged with the Nokia family of IP security appliances, the Nokia IP40 provides a full firewall and VPN solution with end-to-end management for distributed enterprises. Large data centers, enterprises and service provider networks can link on-site users to applications and content located throughout a network, providing an always-on connection to remote locations for secure access to data in real-time.
For network administrators, Nokia IP40 with Nokia Horizon Manager provides easy access to detailed gateway and VPN information to centralize management of all connection and system information, reducing management time and costs. Nokia IP40, similar to other Check Point-enabled Nokia IP series platforms, provides centralized security policy management delivered through Check Point SmartCenter(TM). With its ease of deployment and local management, Nokia IP40 is also well suited for smaller independent business sites that need robust performance.
"Faced with the need to reduce costs and improve business efficiency without risking security, CIO's and IT Managers are extending reliable network access to users in a variety of locations," said Dan MacDonald, vice president of marketing, Nokia. "The Nokia IP40 delivers to the remote office and small office, the same level of security, high availability and management required of a large enterprise or data center."
Customers will benefit from Nokia IP40's high performance VPN and firewall capabilities, including a built-in VPN accelerator and Nokia's purpose-built IPSO(TM) - RX operating system, which is pre-hardened and tuned for network security. In addition, Nokia IP40 features include: a robust command line interface, user-friendly Web-based management, dynamic VPN routing, redundancy for always-on connectivity, and high-availability via Virtual Routing Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) support. Nokia IP40 also features a LAN port and an additional Ethernet port to enable customers to secure a wireless LAN or other computers on one security appliance without affecting other corporate connections.
Customers can choose from up to four licensing packages for the Nokia IP40. Each package offers the same hardware platform and Nokia OS, and is differentiated by the number of users, features and VPN tunnels available.
Nokia IP40 is backed by global Nokia First Call-Final Resolution support network to ensure that customers have a single point of contact for all support needs.
Nokia IP40 is expected to be globally available in November 2003.
