Nokia unveils enterprise data acceleration solution for wireless networks

Nice, France -  Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced Nokia Wireless Accelerator, designed to efficiently optimize data communication over narrowband wireless and fixed networks which improves the overall user experience and saves costs. Nokia Wireless Accelerator enhances the end user experience by securely and efficiently downloading enterprise data to wireless devices or laptops. Nokia Wireless Accelerator technology is a fully integrated component of Nokia IP Security Platforms and Nokia IP VPN solutions, and with its flexible configuration, works transparently with existing services, eliminating the need to change existing content or applications.

"As more businesses go mobile, the need to empower employees with the tools to quickly access information remotely is dramatically increasing," said Dan MacDonald, vice president of marketing, Nokia Enterprise Solutions. "With Nokia Wireless Accelerator, a fast and dependable wireless access solution is readily available to corporate networks, even in the absence of a high speed connection. With the proliferation of mobile devices and laptops with mobile connectivity in today's enterprise environments, businesses will continue to look for ways to leverage these devices to achieve higher levels of productivity."

With Nokia Wireless Accelerator, corporate data traffic to and from the mobile device can be compressed and optimized for convenient and fast viewing. Nokia Wireless Accelerator provides a number of benefits to the enterprise, including increased productivity for mobile employees, remote access cost savings, fast and simple deployment with market leading Nokia IP Security Platforms that feature Nokia's purpose-built IPSO operating system, and easy management through existing Nokia Platform Management solutions Nokia Horizon Manager and Nokia Network Voyager.

Nokia Wireless Accelerator also provides client-server and server-only acceleration models for flexible deployment:

1.  The server-only acceleration model does not require any client installation. Instead, enterprises can leverage Nokia Wireless Accelerator configured as a proxy for a web browser.
2.  In the client-server model, Nokia Wireless Accelerator client is installed on a laptop running Microsoft Windowsâ operating system. When compared to the server-only acceleration, this model provides better savings both in time to receive requested content and in amount of data transferred.

Enterprises can choose the acceleration model that best suits their remote access deployment or use both models simultaneously with a single installation. Nokia Wireless Accelerator provides comprehensive protocol support for accelerating web, email, file transfer, news, and other application traffic.

The new product is the latest addition to Nokia's Mobile Connectivity initiative, a unique, comprehensive set of system level solutions based on the business needs of different types of users. These solutions address the security and mobility limitations of legacy products for rapid return on investment and sustainable competitive advantage.

Consistent with the entire Nokia family of mobile connectivity offerings, Nokia Wireless Accelerator is backed by global Nokia First Call-Final Resolution support network, allowing customers to have a single point of contact for all support needs.

Nokia Wireless Accelerator is expected to be globally available in December 2003.
