EMS SATCOM'S Fleet 55 To Be Demonstrated at the Fort Lauderdale International Boatshow

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS SATCOM, a Division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), will be demonstrating a live Fleet 55 Satcom Terminal at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, being held from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, 2003. The demonstration will be held aboard the 'Guest House', a 65-foot Hatteras sport deck motor yacht that will be moored close to the Marina Marriott Hotel (1881 SE 17th Street).

GMPCS of Pompano Beach, Florida, one of EMS's master distributors for the United States, installed the Fleet 55 Satcom Terminal. SeaWave LLC of Middletown, Rhode Island, will provide applications being shown during the demo.

Since its launch in April of this year, EMS's Fleet 55 has enjoyed spectacular success in the yachting market, where it has been providing unprecedented levels of high-speed data communications connectivity to boats ranging from 60-foot ocean racers to luxury super-yachts. Recent installations within this market include the Pan Orama, a 175-foot motor sailing yacht; the Rasselas, a 167-foot Feadship motor yacht; and the Swan Lake, a 60-foot sailing yacht.

Yacht owners are among the most innovative users of sophisticated on-board systems, and have been waiting for high-speed Satcom equipment capable of being fitted to smaller vessels. The EMS Fleet 55, with an antenna measuring only 68 cms and weighing 18 kgs, is ideally suited to the more aesthetically-minded yachting environment, in which the drivers for staying in contact with the office and the business world are relatively high.

The EMS Fleet 55 terminal utilizes the global beams on Inmarsat's satellites to provide worldwide voice coverage, and spot beams for 64kbits/s Mobile ISDN (including G-3 fax at 14.4kbps, or full-blown G-4 fax) and Mobile Packet Data. It supports a comprehensive selection of interfaces, including ISDN, X.21, RS449, RS232, and two RJ11 ports, as well as optional STUIIB/III service for reliable secure communications.
