Nokia is to supply its digital TETRA professional mobile radio system to Shenzhen Metro Co., Ltd. in China. The Nokia system will enable secure communications for personnel on the Shenzhen Metro train network, which serves four million commuters a year in the Shenzhen Special Economic Area.
Nokia and Shenzhen SEG Communication Co., Ltd., the subcontractor for wireless subsystem, have signed a contract governing the cooperation. The two companies will jointly construct the Shenzhen Metro TETRA network and provide services for Shenzhen Metro Co., Ltd. Deliveries will start at the end of 2003.

At the centre of the system will be the Nokia DXTip exchange, which enables the IP-based connection of different Nokia TETRA components using an IP-based backbone in the public traffic area.
"We are pleased to provide our advanced TETRA system to the Shenzhen Metro Co., Ltd. This is an exciting new transportation case in the Chinese TETRA market," says Topi Kinnunen, Director of Nokia Professional Mobile Radio APAC and Great China.
Shenzhen SEG Communication Co., Ltd., as the system integrator, will cooperate with Nokia to develop applications for the customer's system with the DXTip switch at the core.
