"In the past, enterprises deployed standalone products for their various messaging security needs: spam prevention, content inspection, and virus protection. Enterprises now recognize that standalone products not only increase administrative burden, they are expensive, require manual upgrades and often run on insecure platforms," said Dave Edwards, senior director, Nokia. "Nokia Message Protector delivers a comprehensive, streamlined and integrated secure content management solution with one-stop deployment, automated updates and Statistical Protection(TM) for leading virus, spam and content filtering-all in a purpose-built hardened appliance. Nokia is pleased to have Sophos join the Message Protector Team."
Along with the latest inclusion of the Sophos engine, Nokia Message Protector v.1.3.1 provides fully integrated, multi-layered email and attachment security from Postini, Kaspersky Laboratories, Zixcorp and InDefense. Together with Nokia, these technologies provide a common and secure integrated solution at the network perimeter.
"With email being one of the most prolific methods for spreading viruses, many organizations have experienced the repercussions of not having extra layers of security against malicious code," said Ralph Pisani, VP of Strategic Alliances at Sophos, Inc. "With the addition of Sophos's unique virus detection engine to Nokia Message Protector, users will benefit from the highest possible level of protection against viruses. We are delighted that Nokia has selected Sophos Anti-Virus as part of its Message Protector security offering."
The Sophos Anti-Virus technology provides Internet gateway security to perform each of the following, all on a single, multi-threaded virus detection engine:
- detect all virus types
- detect and disinfect macro, boot sector, and PE executable viruses
- detect viruses in compressed attachments, including recursive archives
- detect viruses inside MIME-encoded messages
- detect viruses that 'morph' during propagation
The Sophos engine will automatically install and provide updates for Nokia Message Protector, with or without administrator assistance, using Nokia's automated network service. This ensures that the latest email security technology is deployed across email networks with minimal latency.
Nokia Message Protector provides the optimal combination of leading message security technologies that are fully integrated and tested on the Nokia purpose-built SC6600 appliance. Consistent with the entire Nokia IP Security Platform family, Nokia Message Protector is backed by global Nokia First Call-Final Resolution support network to ensure that customers have a single point of contact for all support needs.
Nokia Message Protector v1.3.1 is expected to be available globally in November 2003.
