Leap CEO Harvey White Sees Big Win for Consumers

FCC's Order for Wireline Carriers to Meet November 24 LNP Deadline Signals New Era of Consumer Choice and Industry Competition

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 12, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Following Monday's order from the FCC that local exchange carriers, as well as wireless, must meet the November 24, 2003 deadline for local number portability, Leap CEO Harvey White commended the FCC, as the order creates even more competition in the local telephone market for consumers.

In an official statement White said, "We are ecstatic with the FCC's order. We were concerned that wireline customers might have to wait to enjoy the benefits of portability but the FCC's decision has cleared that up. The big winners in this decision are consumers. No longer do they need to be tethered to the wall or to a certain carrier because they have a lot invested in a particular phone number. Now consumers truly have the freedom to choose wireless as their primary telephone number."

White continued, "We have been leading the charge for total number portability from the get-go. Cricket offers reliable wireless service at an affordable and predictable price making us the right choice for consumers wanting the best value for their money. This ruling confirms our position all along that local number portability is the right solution for consumers."
