TORONTO, Nov. 17, 2003, (PRIMEZONE) -- Starmax Technologies Inc. (Pink Sheets:SMXIF) announced today the launch of its new division, StarTrax. Over the past 18 months, Starmax has been finalizing the development of its StarTrax monitoring systems which are specifically targeted at theme parks around the world. Small, clip-on devices utilizing proprietary wireless and GPS tracking technology enable parents to determine the location of children instantly.
The first product to be released commercially is ParkTrax and over the next year, StarTrax will follow up with similar products - ZooTrax, ArenaTrax and BeachTrax. After their successful introduction into key markets, consumer versions will be introduced. The ParkTrax systems will be introduced next summer and rigorous testing will determine its rollout across North America and Europe.
According to Starmax CEO Kim Etherington, "Given our experience in delivering laser shows and systems to theme parks around the world, this product line will completely complement our previous efforts to date. We are very excited to again be at the forefront of new technology that in fact has a valuable application in the marketplace."
Newly appointed Marketing Director Graeme Boyce will be responsible for positioning the company as a global market leader while directing the operations of its consumer division. "Initially," says Boyce, "we will market a GPS monitoring system to theme parks and they in turn will rent individual units daily to visitors. We estimate a potential world market for StarTrax at over $175 million."
Mr. Boyce adds, "I, like all responsible parents, certainly do not have a problem attaching a simple device to my children when visiting busy public places, whether theme parks, beaches, malls or arenas. Thus, our common sense strategy is to approach theme park operators first and then other organizations before releasing a StarTrax product directly to consumers."
Since 1997 Starmax Technologies Inc. has produced laser light shows worldwide for renowned entertainers such as the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, Fortune 500 corporations, cities and governments around the world. Through its LaserTek F/X subsidiary, the company continues to manufacture and market premier laser display systems and laser projection equipment.
