Trintech Launches New Range of Outdoor and Unattended Payment Terminals for Growing Vending Markets

Trintech Launches PayWare OpenPay 3000, a New Linux Based Secure Payment Technology Platform for Unattended Transaction Environments

DUBLIN, Ireland, and DALLAS, Nov. 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Trintech Group Plc. (Nasdaq:TTPA) (Prime Standard:TTP), a leading provider of transaction management and payment infrastructure solutions, today announced at Cartes 2003 in Paris a new range of secure payment solutions for outdoor and unattended payment environments.

The PayWare OpenPay 3000 range of high security PIN Pads have been designed for unattended environments, addressing the requirements of "pay-at-pump" for petroleum companies, product and ticket vending machines, parking and prepaid mobile recharge applications.

"Incorporating Europay-Mastercard-Visa (EMV) smart card reading and PIN Pad capability into unattended systems is challenging due to EMV certification and PIN Pad security requirements," said Eamon Keating, General Manager, Trintech's Retail Division. "The OpenPay 3000 meets these stringent EMV certification and PIN encryption device (PED) standards."

The PayWare OpenPay 3000 has been designed to allow seamless integration by OEM manufacturers -- providing card-based payment and other transaction services on their systems. The new product range is based on the proven PayWare OpenPay SPM (secure payment module), and its modular system design accommodates different combinations of PINPads, card readers and displays.

"With EMV smart cards and the general move to PIN based transactions, unattended payment is set to grow considerably in Europe," said Eamon. "The combination of smart cards and PIN numbers means that potential fraud issues are addressed and enables higher value goods, both physical and electronic, to be dispensed. This saves staff costs, boosts customer revenues, and allows maximum utilization of public floor space. Trintech will also leverage its proven expertise with GPRS technology for online transactions as it enters the unattended vending market -- avoiding the expensive installation and running costs of land lines for vending operators."

"With the PayWare OpenPay 3000, Trintech is building on its core competence in the area of smart cards and PIN Pad security. OpenPay 3000 strengthens Trintech's OEM product offering for major manufacturers worldwide. Trintech will market the system directly to integrators and through qualified VARs," he added.

PayWare OpenPay 3000 uses the same OpenPay platform as Trintech's in-door PIN Pad, the Smart 5000. This common platform is ideal for retailers, particularly petroleum retailers that require payment in-store and at the pump or car wash using the same technology. This means reduced costs for certification and interface development to specialist POS applications in the petroleum sector and provides a powerful open platform for multimedia applications at the pump.

About PayWare OpenPay 3000

There are three models in the PayWare OpenPay 3000 range. The OpenPay 3300 has PIN Pad, reader and LCD integrated into one unit and is the most straightforward to incorporate into new kiosk designs. The OpenPay 3200 model provides both PIN Pad and LCD in a single secure enclosure. The card reader is located separately. With OpenPay 3100, maximum design flexibility is provided in terms of location of the system components, subject to the applicable security requirements, such as protection of plain-text PIN.

The PayWare OpenPay 3000 range meets tough environmental requirements. The keyboard is fully durable in its construction and is based on over a decade's experience with harsh outdoor applications. The keys' patented design provides protection against liquids and physical attack. The units can be front mounted in the vending door or rear mounted using a mounting bracket.

The PayWare OpenPay 3000 product suite routes transactions either directly or indirectly to the payment processor. All EMV software is resident on the module and integration with the vending application is provided using Trintech's certified PayWare SmartPIN API application. In this case the vending application and a back-office payment application completes the transaction. Alternatively, using PayWare OpenPay's multi-application capability, the payment transaction can be managed directly by OpenPay over a dedicated or shared communications infrastructure. For large numbers of sites a central payment application server, for example, Trintech's PayWare Merchant server, can manage all transactions and communications with the payment processor.
