Finding God at Light Speed -- Author Explores His Inner Self, Spirituality and Humanity Through Poetry

ETTERS, Pa., November 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- From philosophy to psychology to astrology, great minds have attempted to demystify the secrets of the universe and womankind. Likewise, people have tried to define the meaning of existence for centuries. Author James Amrine writes that the spirit is the essence of existence, and he details his own journey in search of enlightenment in his new book, Light Speed From Dark Places (now available through 1stBooks).

"The mind is a boundless macrocosm we often explore yet seldom comprehend," Amrine writes.

In 1986, Amrine realized he had become "a maudlin minded manic on a fast track of destruction, denial and moral deterioration." Hoping to offer "some speck of insight" to his daughter, he began a journey to seek salvation and asylum in God's love.

"The only preventive wall was the belief that eternity's judgment would be far more virulent than insanity's hell. An epiphany within my remaining core stretched out and salvation initiated her recovery," he writes.

Through poignant, inspirational verse, Light Speed From Dark Places follows Amrine's footsteps from a "cold, dark grave" to what he now calls a "radiant, joyous universe." He details the highs and lows of his spiritual journey and recounts his perilous steps through "manic mayhem," "soul-searching inquisitions" and the "timeless pursuit of inner self."

Finally, he reveals what he's learned, stressing that every soul is welcome to shine in God's light.

"(We are) all part of the larger whole, all street signs of everyone else's thoroughfare ... Within the vehicles of faith, we travel a perpetual roadmap out of night into day," Amrine says.

A refreshing dip into the soulful depths of a prolific poet's emotions, Light Speed From Dark Places jet sets readers on their own journeys toward the light of God.

"This work served as healing therapy for an unsettled mind ... From the darkest depths of depression to the radiant illumination of self acceptance, witness the proliferation of one's being and the healing grace of inner light," writes Amrine, a native of Maryland.
