Memoirs of a Stripper -- Author and former stripper recounts her fascinating life

ORANGE PARK, Fla., December 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Enter a world of beautiful women, with young, voluptuous bodies, clad only in feathers, fringe and bright sequins. Author and former stripper Lillian Kiernan Brown takes readers back to an era of burlesque beauties, when ladies were treated like treasures and, even scantily clad or in the nude, still behaved as ladies. She tells her fascinating true story in Banned in Boston: Memoirs of a Stripper (now available through 1stBooks).

With humor and honesty, Brown draws the curtain to reveal an era unlike any other. She tells how, at just 14, under the name Lily Ann Rose, she followed her mother and aunts into the world of vaudeville and burlesque. She also recounts how, before the age of 18, she worked with some of the most famous "baggy pants comics" of the day, paraded to songs of boy tenors such as Robert Goulet, was held captive by the Chicago mafia, and was imprisoned and banned in Boston after she mistakenly bared her breasts under the intrusive eyes of Boston's Watch and Ward Society. Brown details her experiences with members of the mob, world champion boxers, Hollywood stars and even a young John F. Kennedy.

From remarkable performances to courtroom dramas to the love and heartaches she found along the way, Brown holds nothing back as she exposes the music, dance and entertainment of the 1940s. Banned in Boston is an intimate portrait of Brown's life experiences as a stripper, back when stripping was an "art form."

Brown has been a journalist for more than three decades and now works as a columnist in Florida. Her stories have been published in magazines and performed as stage plays. She is a member of the National League of American Pen Women and was honored as Florida State Pen Woman of the Year in 1999-2000. Banned in Boston is Brown's first published book.
