Saab signs further Meteor contract worth MSEK 485

LINKOPING, Sweden, Dec. 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- As a result of its involvement, announced in January 2003, in the Meteor European air-to-air missile project, Saab Bofors Dynamics has now received a further development order from the main contractor MBDA UK, worth MSEK 485.

"Meteor will call for our best capabilities in several core areas, and will benefit us and the Swedish Armed Forces," said Gunnar Sprang, business unit manager at Air- and Sea Missile Systems.

The contract includes work on the systems and homing device, testing, and development of telemetry units. Saab has already received orders from MBDA UK for development and production of the proximity fuse, and integration of Meteor on Gripen aircraft (SEK 1.4 billions in total, this order included).

In addition to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, the authorities in the U.K., Germany, Italy, France and Spain are also involved in the new air-to-air missile project. The industrial project is being led by MBDA, in partnership with Saab Bofors Dynamics and Spain's INMIZE.

Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation, and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.
