SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Dec. 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Is the above headline so unthinkable? Michael Moore is wrong: terrorism is still a threat. While the United States can count on our armed forces to win in a stand-up fight, says 27-year Army veteran Colonel Brian M. Rees, war alone is not likely to create a world free from terrorism. His new book, Terrorism, Retaliation, and Victory: Awaken the Soul of America to Defeat Terrorism without Casualties, is an illuminating and controversial guidebook for winning the war on terrorism without fatalities.
Terrorism, Retaliation, and Victory is an alternative to armed conflict, written by a career soldier, military commander, family physician and meditation teacher. In his book, Dr. Rees alienates just about everybody. Doves want to believe we can walk away from Iraq; we can't. Hawks don't want to hear about meditation groups disarming terrorists; they must listen or serious damage awaits us. Arabs and Israelis must share blame, as must the greed of corporate America and the ignorance and apathy of the American public. Politicians read that they are not worthy of the military they oversee.
Colonel Rees believes we can use the measures laid out in his book to create a just and lasting peace. The opportunity to disarm Iraq peacefully has passed; the possibility of future wars with North Korea and other opponents as yet unspecified, remains before us. His book demands that we consider options that allow us to minimize casualties, avoid the creation of new enemies, and prevail over terrorism while remaining true to the most fundamental values of America.
