PivX Solutions, Creators of Proactive Threat Mitigation, have Teamed Up with Graff and Van Wyk, the Authors of 'Secure Coding,' to Offer Secure Coding Training Seminars

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 3, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- PivX Solutions CEO Rob Shively is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Mark Graff and Kenneth Van Wyk, the highly accomplished secure coding experts and authors of the definitive book on the subject, titled, "Secure Coding: Principles and Practices". PivX will begin offering one and two day seminars to clients in the software industry.

Recently PivX has created a new genre in the cyber security space called Proactive Threat Mitigation. "It is a major paradigm shift. Everything we are focused on at the present time is proactive," says Shively. "From the development of new proactive security tools such as Qwik Fix to educating coders and clients to the dangers of the status quo, we are on a mission to prevent problems before they occur. The seminar series developed by Graff and Van Wyk dovetails very nicely with our focus on Proactive Threat Mitigation. Doesn't it make sense to make a small investment up front that will save companies time, money, downtime and lost productivity? The Secure Coding Seminar Series is another huge step in that direction," maintains Shively.

Leading Anti-Virus software company Trend Micro reported that damage caused as a direct result of Worms and Viruses was pegged at $55 billion in 2003. That represents a $20 billion increase over 2002 damages . . . according to British security firm mi2g, MyDoom has caused over $37 billion in damages in one week. Thus, the need for a paradigm shift.

Underscoring the importance of Proactive Threat Mitigation is Amit Yoran, newly appointed Director of the Dept. of Homeland Security's Cyber Security Division, who said at the recent First National Cyber Security Summit that, "We need to establish a culture of security . . . (for) improving preparedness before we see an electronic 9/11."

"Attacks on computer systems and networks occur today at an alarming rate. Worms, malevolent mail and distributed denial of service attacks undermine systems around the globe--from banks to major e-commerce sites to critical infrastructure computers. Despite their many manifestations and targets, nearly all attacks have one fundamental cause: the code underlying these computers and networks is not adequately secure," opines Van Wyk. "We have developed this training seminar series to educate software developers on secure software development processes and practices."

The partnership with Graff and Van Wyk ties in quite nicely with the work PivX is doing with the Software Development Lifecycle subcommittee as a part of the Task Force within the Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity Initiative. All of this taken together makes for some valuable weapons in the fight against cyber attacks and cyber terrorism.

The Secure Coding Seminars are available immediately. PivX clients and others who are committed to Proactive Threat Mitigation can now take advantage of the one and two day "Secure Coding Training and Seminar Series" by calling PivX or contacting PivX electronically at securecoding@pivx.com.
