Nokia has signed a contract with Moscow City Telephone Network, MGTS, one of the largest telecommunications operators in Russia and Europe. The agreement covers the supply of broadband DSL solutions and related services for the MGTS broadband network in Moscow. Deliveries have already begun and network implementation is now underway.
Under the deal, Nokia will supply its latest generation D500 IP DSLAM (Digital Subsciber Line Access Multiplexer), which delivers integrated IP functionality for broadband services. This platform is ideal for MGTS in migrating towards an all-IP network, which brings long-term cost savings and a future-proof investment for the launch of new services. As a complete package, Nokia will also supply Redbackâ SmartEdgeä 400 and SmartEdge 800 Service Gateway edge routers and a full range of services to maintain the competitiveness of the network.
With these deliveries, MGTS aims to enhance its consumer broadband offering, to bring subscribers a wider choice of services, improved performance and service reliability throughout the Moscow capital area.
"MGTS and Nokia have had a relationship for more than 20 years and I am pleased to see our work together continues, especially as it marks a new broadband customer for us. The broadband business is set to offer some exciting growth opportunities in the future, when public networks permit higher quality services to customers," says Mr. Jonathan Sparrow, General Manager for CIS, Networks, Nokia. "Russia is also an important market for Nokia as a whole and this deal underlines our ability to serve a diverse range of customers and together realize new opportunities."
"High competition among Moscow's fixed telecommunications operators requires MGTS to perform serious renovation of the entire network and expand the range of additional services provided to subscribers. The upgrading of our data network, which has huge potential, will permit our company to considerably reinforce its market positions," said Alexander Konovalov, Deputy General Director for Commerce MGTS.
