Nokia provides its WAP Gateway to Guangdong MCC in China

Nokia and Guangdong Mobile Communications Corporation Ltd. (MCC) have agreed on the supply of Nokia's WAP Gateway solution to provide WAP service to the majority of China's Guangdong province.  The system provided by Nokia is one of the largest implementations of the Nokia WAP Gateway to date, able to handle a massive number of simultaneous WAP sessions.

The Nokia WAP Gateway provides reliable and scalable access to convenient WAP browsing services such as news access and online tickets purchasing.  It also supports other advanced solutions for accessing rich content services, including MMS and content download.  The system for Guangdong MCC has been implemented and is already operational.

Nokia has also provided an extensive range of services including implementation, systems integration and customized load pressure testing for fast service ramp up.  In addition, for optimal service availability, Nokia will provide care services including software maintenance, help desk, emergency support, health check services, on-site support, as well as training services.

"We have been extremely satisfied with the professional and committed services Nokia has provided, helping us to reach fast time-to-revenue with a successful commercial launch," says Li Gang, General Manager of Guangdong MCC.

"The amount of data traffic is in China growing at an impressive rate," says David Ho, Senior Vice President, Networks, Nokia China.  "This is especially true for WAP services in Guangdong.  We are very pleased that Guangdong MCC has turned to Nokia's solution to keep pace with this growing demand.  As the one of the biggest WAP Gateway projects we have ever implemented, we know that Guangdong MCC now has the WAP capacity it needs, now and for some time to come."

Guangdong MCC serves over 30 million of mobile subscribers in southern China's Guangdong province.
