iF design award 2004: Nokia wins design prize for the Nokia 810 Car Phone

Hanover, Germany - At this year's iF design award ceremony, Nokia was honoured in the category "Communication Design" for its Nokia 810 Car Phone. A total of 1,458 candidates from 32 countries competed in six disciplines for the much sought-after iF label. The iF design award has been given since 1953, and is one of the best-known and important design honours in the world, conferred by a jury made up of top international designers. The iF label is a recognised sign of the highest product quality.

"Winning the iF design award 2004 honours and confirms our core competence in design. We have succeeded in developing an attractive communication solution ideally adapted to the automotive environment. This makes it all the more gratifying for us, after having earned numerous design prizes for Nokia mobile phones, to now be the recipients of such a highly respected commendation for the design of a Nokia car phone", says Waldemar Sakalus, Director Nokia Smart Traffic Products.

The Nokia 810 Car Phone impressed the jury with its functional design and state-of-the-art technology. Top marks were given for the user-friendly interface of the receiver with its clearly arranged functions, as well as for the high level of comfort of use. Convenient operation is provided by the NaviTM wheel and four additional function keys, which afford quick and easy access to the telephone's functions. The Nokia 810 Car Phone also features a separate display with large fonts, wireless voice and data communication via Bluetooth wireless technology and support for two individual user profiles.

Submissions for the iF design award 2004 were judged by a prestigious international expert jury presided over by Fritz Frenkler (f/p design GmbH, Frankfurt). 513 candidates were awarded an iF label, 55 of them in the category "Communication Design". Of these, 19 entries fell under the sub-category of "Digital Media"- including the Nokia 810 Car Phone - and 36 under the sub-category of "Graphic Design".
