Northrop Grumman Enters Litigation Electronic Data Discovery Market

Solution originally developed for Department of Defense transfers to commercial marketplace

HERNDON, Va., March 25, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has taken its proven litigation electronic data discovery solution to the commercial marketplace. Previously developed for the defense and intelligence communities, the company's electronic data technology is now helping corporations and law firms more quickly process and analyze large amounts of electronic data while identifying highly relevant information from large data repositories.

The company's Information Technology sector has partnered with Driven Inc., Falls Church, Va., on a contract to code all of the electronic documents in an outstanding lawsuit. Coding is an automated way of classifying the data for immediate review and analysis by either experts or attorneys. "Combining Driven's technological strengths and organizational review capabilities with Northrop Grumman's technology will provide an effective solution to help our clients organize their electronic review and coding process for optimum results," said Don Greger, president, Driven, Inc.

Northrop Grumman's solution applies accurate and consistent automated coding and adaptive intelligence to electronic content typically included in litigation. Inherent in the solution is the ability to code and classify documents, both native formats and optical character recognition text, and discover non-obvious relationships. The company also provides culling, coding, de-duplication, advanced search, hosting, incremental review, and experts in electronic data discovery.

"We have provided this solution for Department of Defense and intelligence community customers for more than a decade," said Kent Schneider, president of Northrop Grumman Information Technology's Defense Enterprise Solutions business unit. "One recent solution codes all incoming information to the Pentagon's Telecommunications Service Center. This solution is the largest telecommunications hub in the world. Content is coded live as it moves across the network."

The company's work results in a flexible, cost effective, proven capability with direct application to a wide range of divergent missions, including signals intelligence predictive analysis and Army special operations. This defense and intelligence domain is where the company's technology solution began and meets the highest security requirements defined by U.S. government agencies.

The company now offers this electronic data discovery solution for commercial applications where this technology can be used to code information, create taxonomies, and provide for prospective and retrospective searching.
