KEMIRA GROWHOW TO CLOSE DOWN PRODUCTION IN FREDERICIA, DENMARK

Kemira GrowHow has decided on the closing down of production at the company's production unit in Denmark during this summer. Negotiations with the local Works Council were completed today. The closing down of production will mean redundancy for about 300 employees.

The closing will mean bringing down all chemical production at the site. This includes nitric acid, potassium nitrate, dicalcium phosphate, and NPK fertilizer production of approximately 700,000 tonnes a year in total nominal capacity. The company has completed the relevant write-offs during the past few years.

Kemira GrowHow aims to maintain the Fredericia site as a warehouse and a distribution centre for its Danish customers. Customers' service will continue as previously, including the same products and services. The products to the Danish market will be sourced from Kemira GrowHow Group's other production units.

Closing down production in Fredericia will focus Kemira GrowHow's production within fewer, more competitive sites, thus improving the Group's earnings starting in 2005.
