The 2004 Irish Festival at The Great Plaza at Penn's Landing

Part of The PECO Energy Multicultural Series; Friday Night Event Added for this Year's Festival


PHILADELPHIA, June 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Irish culture will be celebrated during PECO Energy's Multicultural Series, returning to the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The Irish Festival takes place Friday, June 25 from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This year's Irish Festival adds a Friday night event. Friday night will offer a Boxing Match event. Holy Family Boxing Club from Belfast Ireland will take on the Harrowgate Boxing Club from Philadelphia. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets for Friday night only will be $25.00. The sixth annual Irish Festival is a family event that features well-known Irish musical performers. The gates will open at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday and admission is free. Guests can enjoy the music of the Bogside Rogues, Sean Fleming, Wild Geese, and Peter McDonald and Friends. Drowsy Maggie, Danny Boys, Con and Dicey Riley will also take the stage during the festival.

In addition to great musical performances, the Irish Festival has something for people of all ages. There will be bagpipers, face painting, and Irish dancing along with other entertainment for the kids. Local dance schools will conduct dance exhibitions and there will also be an Irish dance contest. The kitchen from Finnegan's Wake will be serving Irish favorites like fish and chips and there will be plenty of vendors selling traditional Irish goods and crafts.
