Towngas - Shenzhen to Hong Kong (Tai Po) Twin 18 inch Submarine gas pipeline project

A new gas supply pipeline system will be developed to connect the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal at Shenzhen across Mirs Bay through Tolo Channel to Tai Po gas production plant in Hong Kong. Aker Kvaerner's engineering effort for this detail design contract will be approximately 11,000 man hours; and up to 12 specialists and field engineers will be working on the project.

The submarine pipeline system will cover a total length of approximately 32 kilometres - 33 kilometres offshore pipeline section and 1 kilometre onshore section. This will comprise of twin 18 inch pipelines bundled together and will be installed in one common trench at the sea-bottom. The bundled pipeline will then be buried with insitu material and armour rock up to 3 meters. This pipeline system will include one subsea wye and two pipeline crossing over existing WSD (Water Supply Department) twin water pipes and existing Towngas Naphtha line.

Aker Kvaerner's Singapore office is the group's centre of excellence for subsea pipelines, and the new contract comes in addition to several other high profile contracts for subsea pipelines that have been secured earlier this year. The latest contract confirms the company's position as the preferred consultant for integrated pipeline and subsea projects in the region.
