A Tangled Web of Espionage -- Corruption and Multibillion Dollar Dealings Provide Grounds for Espionage in New Novel

SUN CITY WEST, Ariz., July 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A new fleet of hi-tech bombers, when developed, will fly off the assembly line, causing governments and executives to clamor for their piece of the high-priced pie. Espionage, covert business dealings, corruption and vicious office politics flavor the new spy novel, B3: Valkyrie Incarnate (now available through AuthorHouse) by Lee Shaffer.

The executive vice president of engineering at Chandler Aircraft is extremely excited about his new fleet of B3 bombers. To him, the spirit of the beautiful but deadly handmaidens of the Viking God Odin, will be symbolic of the futuristic and revolutionary planes. To others, they will be a huge threat. When the Chinese KGB covertly obtains knowledge of the B3 contract, they blackmail a young Chinese girl into coming to the United States to steal the design secrets of the bomber. Chosen for her stunning beauty and grace, Mei Chang (renamed Mael Toi by the KGB) entices a greedy high-level engineering executive, Jason Summerhays, into her web of espionage.

Mael's scheme seems to be working as planned until two engineering managers, Whit and Cam, discover an apparent conspiracy. When Jason overhears their plans for a deep-sea fishing trip off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, he quickly invites himself along. To cover their tracks and keep their plans secret, Jason and Mael plot to kill the two engineers on the trip.

Shaffer entwines the private and professional lives of the main characters while peeking behind the curtain of secrecy of multibillion dollar development contracts for military aircraft, revealing an engaging, exciting espionage story in B3: Valkyrie Incarnate.

Shaffer is a retired aeronautical engineer with more than 35 years of experience on teams that developed various secret military aircraft. He has a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from St. Louis University. Through personal investments, he grew a business, which he directed while pursuing his engineering career. He and his wife, married since 1956, have one daughter and six grandchildren. B3: Valkyrie Incarnate is his first book.
