FORT LEE, N.J., Aug. 3, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Whale Communications today announced that it has increased the number of key applications for which its SSL VPN has built-in support, adding Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Secure Access Manager and PeopleSoft(R) Enterprise Human Capital Management (HCM) to its already robust list of out-of-the-box applications optimized for secure remote access.
In keeping with Whale's Application Aware(TM) approach, it also has enhanced its policy compliance engine by adding the ability to check for the presence of more antivirus and firewall products. Whale now also checks for the presence of Computer Associates eTrust(TM) Antivirus and eTrust Firewall, Sophos Anti-Virus and Internet Security System's(TM) BlackICE PC Protection. This bolsters security by providing the enterprise with another tool to control information access from an uncontrolled endpoint by allowing it to enforce security policy based on the presence of antivirus and firewall on the machine.
Whale's application awareness is at the forefront of technology development in the SSL VPN space and is setting the security standard for anywhere remote access. Whale's application awareness allows enterprises to leverage their SSL VPN beyond limited access by trusted users from un-trusted locations by extending access to un-trusted users (partners, customers) from anyplace.
"Whale's intimate knowledge of applications allows us not only to granularly control access to the application but we can also alter the applications' behavior. This ability was paramount to us because we have heterogeneous user groups and wanted to provide access to varying applications with differing security policies," said Dan Harman, who heads the remote access implementation at Lewis Group, one of the nation's largest privately held real estate development groups. "As a real estate developer our executives are conducting multi-million dollar deals remotely. We are also delivering service to our tenants. When you are working with such divergent user groups the security and level of granular control that Whale's technology provides is critical."
"We are pleased to be able to provide our customers with the most flexible and secure SSL VPN available," said Daniel Steiner, President of Whale. "Our Application Aware approach enables our customers to maximize the investment in their existing application infrastructure to extend it securely beyond the corporate walls. This ensures a quick return on their investment through heightened productivity."
