COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today congratulated Eurotel Praha on its launch of CDMA2000(r) 1xEV-DO broadband services. This deployment is the first implementation of 1xEV-DO technology in the 450 MHz band, and the first 1xEV-DO network in Europe. The service is available to more than 70% of the population and will provide the fastest mobile Internet access in the Czech Republic.
"Eurotel Praha is a leading example of how CDMA2000 technologies enable 450 MHz analog operators to utilize their existing infrastructure to offer advanced wireless services," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is the most advanced broadband wireless technology deployed today."
CDMA2000 technologies provide an economical one-step evolution path to the next generation of voice and data services for operators such as Eurotel, who use the Nordic Mobile Telephone (NMT) first-generation analog standard in the 450 MHz band. Also, a single CDMA2000 carrier requires only 1.25 MHz of spectrum, an important consideration for NMT-450 operators who typically have 2 x 4.45 MHz allocated to them.
There are nearly 70 NMT-450 operators, largely in Eastern Europe and Russia, for which CDMA2000 offers a unique opportunity to advance and effectively compete with next-generation services. Already, eight NMT operators around the world have migrated to CDMA2000 1X and many more are deploying or trialing it. Several carriers, including Zapp Mobile in Romania and Skyline in St. Petersburg, Russia are planning to introduce CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services.
