KEMIRA SELLS CALCIUM CHLORIDE BUSINESS TO TETRA TECHNOLOGIES, INC.

Kemira has signed an agreement on the sale of its calcium chloride business to the American TETRA Technologies, Inc.  The Group's annual net sales in calcium chloride total approx. EUR 50 million. The deal is conditional and subject to e.g. further approval by authorities.

Kemira will strengthen its four core businesses through organic growth and acquisitions.  The Group's areas of growth are in pulp and paper chemicals, water treatment chemicals, paints and coatings and industrial chemicals. Calcium chloride has not been among Kemira's core business areas.

Kemira runs production of calcium chloride in Kokkola, Finland, and in Helsingborg, Sweden. Kemira further operates a liquid calcium chloride production unit in Delfzijl, Holland, on a 50/50  joint venture basis with Akzo.

Calcium chloride is used e.g. in dust binding and de-icing of snow and ice, for deliveries to e.g. the oil drilling industry and food processing plants.
