Nokia Receives Important Government Certification of Network Security Appliances for Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises

Nokia-Check Point Firewall/VPN solutions receive FIPS 'seal of approval', meeting strict security performance requirements

NEW YORK, September 14, 2004 - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced that two members of its award-winning family of high performance network security appliances are compliant with Federal Information Processing (FIPS) 140-2 standards.  Nokia IP350 and Nokia IP380 platforms tightly integrated with Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) VPN-1 Pro, have met and exceeded the stringent security and performance requirements demanded of the certification process.  The certification provides new opportunities for deployment of Nokia-Check Point network security solutions throughout public and private sector organizations in North America.

FIPS 140-2 is a benchmark defined by the U.S. and Canadian governments that outlines the strict security requirements for cryptographic network appliances.  Meeting these requirements is necessary in order to sell cryptography products to the U.S. and Canadian governments, and increasingly throughout areas of the private sector, such as financial services and healthcare.  Through vigorous testing of Nokia IP350 and Nokia IP380 running Check Point VPN-1, these solutions have earned certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Communications Security Establishment of the Government of Canada (CSE).

"Today's private and public sector organizations demand nothing but the highest levels of security protecting their networks, and the FIPS 'seal of approval' gives them the assurance they need that they can trust and rely on Nokia-Check Point industry-leading solutions," said Greg Shortell, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Nokia Enterprise Solutions.

"The FIPS certification of the Nokia-Check Point solution is a testament to the proven security performance of Nokia's hardware platform tightly integrated with Check Point VPN-1 software," said Carol Stone, vice president of marketing, Check Point.  "FIPS certification ensures our government sector customers benefit from solutions that adhere to the highest government standards of Internet security.  Furthermore, Nokia and Check Point continue to work together to bring complete, flexible security platforms to the market, and this FIPS certification demonstrates that commitment."

More than a dozen encryption algorithms responsible for safeguarding valuable information were tested and certified on the joint Nokia/Check Point offerings.  Nokia IP350 and Nokia IP380 are currently available worldwide.
