ATLANTA, Sept. 28, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Savvy utilities offer energy usage data to help large customers in their energy efficiency efforts -- such as in benchmarking, energy profile development, energy saving tracking and more. But utilities shouldn't simply make the data available, according to Chartwell's new report, Internet-Based Energy Data and Analysis For C&I Customers. End-users need to be educated about the value of timely energy usage data because they are not sure how to best utilize the data. In addition, large customers who try to manage energy efficiency want solutions, not just a load profile. They want the utility to inform them when there is a problem and advise what to do about it, according to Chartwell's research.
Offering online energy data seems to be growing, according to data from Chartwell's 2004 survey of 70 utilities regarding their products and services for C&I customers. In that survey, 10% of utility respondents mentioned various online data services when asked which, if any, C&I products or services were added to their product mix over the past 12 months.
The 60-page report includes not only Chartwell's proprietary survey data, but also four in-depth case studies on utilities that have successful Internet-based energy data services for large customers. In addition, Internet-Based Energy Data and Analysis For C&I Customers includes profiles of 17 vendors that serve the energy industry's needs in this area.
The report, which is available from Chartwell for $350, is part of The Chartwell Utility Marketing Research Series, which covers products, services, marketing issues and customer relations. The Series is an ongoing information service that provides utility case studies; topical analysis and research; and a database of utilities and the products and services they offer. Members of the Research Series have input into the direction of the research and design of the survey instrument.
