DUBLIN, Ireland and DALLAS, Oct. 11, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ireland's State Owned Transportation Company Implements Trintech's PayWare Merchant for Unattended Ticket Vending at DART and Commuter Railway Stations.
Trintech Group Plc (Nasdaq:TTPA) (Prime Standard: TTP), a leading provider of transaction reconciliation and payment infrastructure solutions, today announced that CIE Group, Ireland's state owned transportation company, has selected Trintech's bank-accredited PayWare Merchant to automate the processing of tickets purchased using a debit or credit card, via unattended ticket vending machines. The vending machines are currently located in DART and Commuter railway stations with a roll out schedule to include mainline and regional stations in the coming months.
Iarnrod Eireann, the Irish rail network, and Bus Eireann, the Irish bus network, will deploy PayWare Merchant to handle the high volumes of card transactions associated with seat reservations at ticket vending machines, booking offices, call centers and online. Iarnrod Eireann will also integrate and roll out Trintech's Smart 5000 PINPad, a hybrid card reader that accepts both chip cards and magnetic swipe cards. The Smart 5000 PINPad, with its stylish and intuitive design, large display and aesthetic appeal, is one of the industry's fastest and most intuitive PIN Pads designed to meet the current and future demands of card acceptance and PIN entry at the point of sale.
As part of the Irish Government's plan to maximize the use of public transport, CIE and its companies have been involved in a major investment program funded from the National Development Plan as well as EU co-funding. Part of this investment program includes the selection and roll out of unattended EMV Chip and PIN ready ticket vending machines.
The new system will enable passengers to conduct secure Chip and PIN transactions at each unattended terminal. CIE are amongst the first to prepare for Chip and PIN in Ireland and will switch on the Chip and PIN facility when the roll out schedule is complete.
"Following a detailed review of available online credit card authorization applications, the CIE Group selected Trintech's PayWare as the solution that best matched its business requirements and could link directly to the Bank of Ireland," said Frank Gray at CIE. "We were keen to work with an organization that had extensive experience in the Chip and PIN sector. By selecting and implementing PayWare Merchant we are in a position to provide our customers with the excellent service standards they expect from us, while satisfying our own internal cost and efficiency requirements."
"The awarding of this significant contract confirms that Trintech is a respected and established brand in the transaction reconciliation and payment solutions market place," said Eamon Keating, General Manager of Trintech's Payments Division. "PayWare Merchant has been configured to provide organizations such as CIE with rapid online authorizations, multi-currency support and secure unattended ticket vending transactions. PayWare Merchant will provide CIE with a fully automated solution that can handle multiple payment types, including a seamless migration to Chip and PIN."
