Nokia and Ford offer a jointly developed integrated automotive communications solution for Ford vehicles

Düsseldorf/Helsinki - Today, Nokia and Ford are presenting an integrated mobile phone communications solution that was developed especially for Ford vehicles. The new Nokia handsfree system with voice activation and Bluetooth connectivity offers a range of sophisticated features and can be used with mobile phones from various manufacturers*. The system supports two connection options: Bluetooth connectivity and cable connection in conjunction with a mobile holder**.

Depending on the mobile phone and connection chosen, the user can comfortably access the phone's major communications functions using the car displays and the control buttons of the vehicle***. These functions include searching the phonebook, initiating and taking calls, as well as reading and sending text messages. Incoming calls and messages are shown on the radio display, meaning they can be registered with a quick glance. Many functions can also be voice activated, using various speaker-dependent or speaker-independent commands. An external GSM antenna improves sound quality in handsfree operation.

This communications solution is a product of Nokia's partnership with Ford and it is intended to offer Ford customers special benefits. By integrating the innovative Nokia handsfree system in the new Ford Focus, as well as the Focus C-Max and other Ford models in the near future, Nokia and Ford have found a solution that gives Ford owners an added measure of freedom.

"Consumers today expect to find state-of-the-art communications equipment in the cars they buy - not only in the premium segment, but in all segments. Our handsfree system developed especially for Ford responds to just these demands, because it's easy and comfortable to operate and is designed to fit in seamlessly with the automotive interior", says Marcus Stahl, General Manager Nokia  Automotive Accounts.

The handsfree system is expected to be available in Europe starting 4th quarter 2004.
