GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Embraer has selected the Smiths Aerospace (LSE:SMIN) integrated standby instrument system (ISIS) for the ERJ145 Harbin/Embraer variant aircraft to be built in China. Production deliveries with ISIS are scheduled to commence in 2004 and Embraer is now focusing this ERJ145 variant at the indigenous Chinese regional jet market. ISIS is developed at the Smiths facility in Cheltenham, England.
The ISIS is a fully integrated, self-sensing standby instrument capable of computing and displaying attitude, altitude, airspeed, heading, mach and ILS within a single 3ATI instrument, with liquid crystal display technology. Smiths Aerospace has been a supplier of standby instruments for more than 50 years and the ISIS has been selected for more than 10 different aircraft platforms across civil and military air transport, regional jets, business jets, trainers and helicopters. Major ISIS customers, besides Embraer, include Bombardier Aerospace, Boeing Commercial, Boeing Military, Westland Helicopters and Lockheed Martin. Standby instruments are provided to ensure that, even in the worst possible circumstances of failure in an aircraft's systems, the pilot will still have a presentation of the most essential flight information.
Smiths Aerospace, a part of Smiths Group, is the leading transatlantic aerospace equipment and systems company, with nearly $2 billion sales and more than 10,000 staff split between Europe and North America. Smiths holds key positions in the supply chains on all major military and civil aircraft and engine manufacturers.
