Fujitsu Selects Emulex InSpeed Technology for Embedded Switching Within ETERNUS 6000 Storage Solutions

ETERNUS 6000 Achieves New Performance Record Using Emulex InSpeed and LightPulse Products

COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, announced today that Fujitsu Ltd. has selected Emulex's award-winning InSpeed(tm) SOC 320 embedded storage switch for its ETERNUS 6000 high-end storage solutions. The ETERNUS 6000 storage products will begin shipments this month.

Just two months after the successful implementation of InSpeed into its midrange ETERNUS 3000 storage solutions was announced, Fujitsu has again selected Emulex's InSpeed SOC 320 embedded switch for integration into its ETERNUS 6000 family of enterprise storage solutions. Fujitsu customers who select the ETERNUS 6000, models 500, 700, 900 and 1100, benefit from the enhanced RAS (reliability, availability and serviceability) and performance capabilities enabled by InSpeed. In a recent Storage Performance Council (SPC) benchmark test, which was conducted using Emulex's InSpeed technology in conjunction with previously-qualified Emulex LightPulse(tm) PCI-X Fibre Channel HBAs, the ETERNUS 6000 achieved a new world record for performance on a high-end storage system. "In September 2004, we announced that Fujitsu had successfully implemented InSpeed into its midrange ETERNUS 3000 line of storage solutions. Now they have again selected InSpeed-this time for their 6000 family of enterprise storage offerings. We are confident that Fujitsu customers will quickly realize the RAS and performance benefits inherent to Emulex's robust infrastructure solutions within the ETERNUS family of storage offerings," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Emulex's InSpeed products, combined with its LightPulse family of high performance HBAs, provide a flexible, scalable and reliable suite of SAN infrastructure solutions that fully complement Fujitsu's ETERNUS family of storage solutions."

"As a leader in the storage technology market, it is important that Fujitsu continue to integrate infrastructure solutions that enable us to continue delivering record-breaking performance and first-rate serviceability to our enterprise storage customers," said Mr. Koichi Ueda, General Manager, Storage Systems Division, Storage Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "The Emulex SOC 320 has consistently delivered on its promise of reliability, availability and serviceability in other ETERNUS solutions, and we look forward to the same level of success with our ETERNUS 6000 line."

About InSpeed

InSpeed technology is an advanced switching architecture coupling a non-blocking crossbar switch with unique loop port logic, resulting in a single, highly integrated SOC capable of handling multiple Fibre Channel devices in embedded SOC, blade and box environments. InSpeed improves storage system RAS characteristics and enables enhanced performance and management capabilities in disk and tape storage arrays. The InSpeed SOC 320 includes features such as Automatic Trunking and integrated Fairness and Prioritization to guarantee equal access to all drives. The InSpeed SOC 320 brings point-to-point switched connectivity to the individual drives in the storage array, enabling new drive-level diagnostics and preventative maintenance and eliminating the single-point-of-failure risks that each drive poses to the entire drive shelf and, sometimes, the entire storage array.
