RESTON, Va., Feb. 4, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) announced today that it had signed a contract with ITT Industries Advanced Engineering & Sciences Division to assist in the definition and design of ground-based beamforming (GBBF) terrestrial infrastructure. MSV's GBBF system will incorporate Adaptive Interference Cancellation (AIC) technology to dramatically improve the service quality and efficiency of MSV's next generation service.
GBBF technology will form a key element in MSV's next generation hybrid satellite network, enabling MSV to minimize both the cost and complexity of the next generation satellites, while providing the ability to upgrade and evolve the system's planned 3-G cellular air-interface over the satellite's projected 15-year life.
The incorporation of AIC technology into the GBBF system will provide the most efficient Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) ever deployed by allowing the system to simultaneously optimize satellite and ATC system capacity through the incorporation of advanced, digital signal processing (DSP) based, real-time interference cancellation techniques. Similar in concept to the principles employed in consumer devices designed for Acoustic Noise Cancellation, AIC will enable real-time cancellation of RF noise sources, including RF emissions from MSV's planned ATC system.
"We are thrilled to be teamed with ITT Industries, a world-class technology leader. They truly understand our vision," says MSV vice chairman and CEO, Alexander H. Good. "This is the first, among many announcements we expect to be making in the upcoming months as we ramp up our network buildout. With the support of the best in class technology leaders like ITT, `wireless everywhere', on a cost efficient basis, will soon be a reality."
About Mobile Satellite Ventures
Mobile Satellite Ventures is dedicated to developing the next generation hybrid wireless network over North America that will utilize a powerful satellite constellation working in unison with MSV's patented ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology to deliver seamless wireless services to end-users over standard wireless devices. In November 2004, MSV was awarded the first-ever license to operate with ATC, signaling a new generation of wireless satellite technology.
MSV is North America's premier provider of mobile satellite communications. Delivering service since 1996, MSV offers customers a wide choice of wireless data, voice, fax and dispatch radio services via its two MSAT satellites. MSV provides superior capacity and reliability for customers across North America, northern South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and in coastal waters.
