The article highlighted an urgent need for more information on the world's underwater seascape following the collision of a U.S. Navy submarine with an underwater mountain. Echoscope's new technology boasts unique advantages over other methods of underwater mapping and imaging and a new collaboration with Cardiff University in Wales, U.K. is designed to focus on creating virtual reality 3D images of the seabed in the laboratory or on board a vessel. Television news broadcasts have emphasized the Echoscope's role in port and harbor security. In conjunction with University of South Florida's Center for Ocean Technology, Echoscope was selected to secure the port and terminal areas at Jacksonville prior to and during this month's Super Bowl event. "Fox 13 News" televised a story on this project as well as another one on last summer's assignment, putting the 3D technology through its paces in St Petersburg. The vast capabilities of Coda geophysical survey software are perfectly illustrated in February's National Geographic magazine. In an 18-page feature entitled "A Wreck Revealed", editorial reports and photographs describe the fate of German ships that were attacked and sunk during World War II. Some outstanding underwater sonar images were captured by the Polish Navy using a Coda DA50 sonar acquisition system.
