Emulex HBA Drivers Included on SP1 CD to Support Microsoft's New x64 OS Editions

COSTA MESA, Calif., May 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the industry's preeminent source for a broad range of advanced storage networking infrastructure solutions, today announced availability of its Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) drivers for the recently-released Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions. The Emulex HBA drivers include support for servers based on Intel(r) Xeon(tm) processors that support Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel(r) EM64T)-based solutions. Qualified Emulex Storport drivers for use in the Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions are also available on the SP1 CD distribution.

"As a participant in Intel's early development and driver optimization program, Emulex continues to work closely with Intel to ensure its HBA drivers are optimized for use with platforms that support Intel EM64T. Emulex is uniquely positioned to deliver next generation 64-bit technologies consistent with those of its strategic partners, such as Intel and Microsoft," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "The release of Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions will help fuel the migration to 64-bit computing. We are confident that 64-bit systems will not only penetrate data center environments, but we also expect to see more mainstream adoption within the volume server segment."

"Emulex worked closely with Intel to ensure that our mutual customers could seamlessly move to storage environments that natively supports 64-bit processor technologies," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing with Intel's Digital Enterprise Group. "Emulex, Intel and Microsoft understand that close collaboration is vital to the successful deployment of 64-bit solutions by end users. As a result, customers benefit from the early development and optimization efforts from all three vendors."

The entire family of Emulex HBAs and its Storport driver are qualified for use with Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions, which were released via the Service Pack 1 CD. The Emulex driver model provides the flexibility needed to support its entire family of HBAs, including 4 Gb/s offerings, because it leverages the company's unique Service Level Interface (SLI) to enable a firmware-upgradeable HBA architecture design. This ensures that Emulex HBA users can derive the maximum level of benefits offered by Storport today and seamlessly integrate future functionality via firmware upgrades.

"With the broad availability of x64-capable processors and systems, coupled with a full suite of Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions, we are confident there will be an accelerated shift to 64-bit computing," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, senior product manager, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. "Working with Emulex to ensure compatibility of its HBA drivers helps ensure seamless deployment of system and storage solutions within 64-bit computing environments."

The robust features of Emulex's LightPulse HBAs provide the flexibility and broad interoperability needed for complex, highly scalable heterogeneous SANs. Emulex solutions include a unique firmware architecture that is fully software compatible with previous generations of the company's HBAs.
