Electrowatt Infra Ltd., Latin America, which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group's Infrastructure & Environment business group, in association with its Mexican partner Sintra, has been awarded a consulting contract by the Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transporte, Mexico, for a suburban commuter railway. The value of Electrowatt Infra's share of the assignment is EUR 0.8 million.
The Mexican Government has announced its intention to restore passenger rail services in Mexico City as part of a national development plan for 2001-2006 to reduce congestion and contamination. Located north of the city, the railway will have a length of 25 km and is estimated to cost USD 600 million.
